Letters From Lea: Where Have All the Real Men Gone?

Real Men

Dearest Listeners,

Let me start this month’s letter with a disclaimer. I believe that strong women (wives and mothers) are vital to our society and the success of our country…but that’s not what this letter is about.

I want to know where have all the real men gone?

If we take a look at the headlines in the news these past few years it’s the same messages over and over again…

“Man rapes woman and gets 6 month jail sentence.” “Millennials complain they aren’t appreciated and valued enough at work.” “Parents offended by children saying the Pledge of Allegiance at school.” “Musician thrown in jail for punching rival.”

It’s down right disheartening and depressing and frankly I’m sick of it.

Our country is full of whiny, self centered, weak, boys…and it’s our own darn fault. Somewhere along the way we forgot that it’s OK to lose, that to lose gives us the drive to work harder and win next time. We’ve lost sight of the inherent differences between men and women. Differences that should be celebrated and encouraged in our sons not ignored and suppressed.

Real MenA strong nation needs strong men.

Men with integrity, humility, and courage in the face of their enemies. Men who allow their faith in God, in something bigger than themselves, rule their decisions, not popular opinion.

Men who aren’t afraid to work, not only at their jobs but at home as well.

Men who value creating a home for their families in both the physical and emotional sense. Men who work hard in their roles as husbands and fathers.

Men who our children (both sons and daughters) look up to. Not for their monetary wealth or fame, but for their spiritual strength and moral character.

Those of you that are frequent listeners have heard me reference the movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Take a moment to listen to this clip and think about how it relates to our political situation today. Listen with an open heart, with an open mind, and when you’re done, take a moment to pray. Pray for America, pray for our leaders and pray for our country.

Lea Faulkner XOXO
